Holiday Portrait Locations and Your Chance to Win a Complimentary Holiday Mini-Session

Ok, I’m calling on all my blog readers to lend me your ideas for the best holiday portrait locations in and around the greater Seattle Tacoma area. What do you think would provide the best setting and backdrop for capturing family or individual portraits that will ultimately make their way on to your holiday greeting cards? Your ideas can be a specific location or just a concept. Help me out. What do you think? All your ideas are welcome; urban, metropolitan, suburban, remote, rustic, etc…

What is the family portrait experience that you always thought would be cool or creative but have never had the chance to do yet? I’ll collect your ideas over the next week. After that, we’ll have a poll and allow everyone else to chime in on what they think is THE best idea. Whomever submits the idea that is ultimately selected will win a complimentary holiday mini-session. The holiday mini-session includes a 30-minute portrait session, one digital image that you can use for your holiday photo cards, and an 8×10 print of the same image. And of course, if you want to do something different than your typical Costco or Wal-Mart photo cards this year, I can help you with custom press printed designs.

So, get to it. Either submit your location ideas to me via the comments section or feel free to email them directly to me. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

September 18, 2008 - 6:02 PM Steph - I've always wanted to do a family holiday photo on the deck of a ferry. Very NW. Especially if there are lights or evergreens in the background (and water of course).

September 18, 2008 - 6:22 PM jennyjoyphotography - Oooh. Cool idea, Steph. I can't wait to see what other ideas come my way. You've set the bar pretty high though from a creativity (and uniqueness) perspective. Keep 'em coming.

September 19, 2008 - 9:47 AM Niesha - It would be fun to go to the pumkin patch or the christmas tree farm. It shows the beautiful NW fall colors and there are corn mazes and hay rides, cider and hot cocoa. It was always my favorite family thing to do with my family. I especially liked when we went up into the mountains to cut down the Christmas tree.

September 19, 2008 - 10:14 AM jennyjoyphotography - Nice, I love it! Yum.....hot cocoa? My favorite:)

September 19, 2008 - 11:03 AM amberpatersonphotography - I would say to go to a nursery. They usually have beautiful garden displays, both indoor and outdoor. The closest to us that comes to mind is the Windmill in Sumner. They have the area where they do weddings that is lovely, as well as different Christmas displays they'd put up. The other place I've heard is fabulous is Molbaks in Woodinville, although that would be a drive. Either way, you could then give them some of your pics to put up and possibly get more business.

September 19, 2008 - 11:04 AM amberpatersonphotography - BTW, I feel stupid that this is the first time I'm commenting on your blog!!! I kept searching for it and finally found it today! My husband has been looking at it religiously, and I just realized it last week!

September 20, 2008 - 8:50 PM Diane - Hi Jenny I think it would be fun to have a picture taken in a speed boat. Ours is a Malibu Wake Board boat and all of our family loves it. So, our Christiamas picture could be on Lake Tapps with the glorious Mt. Rainier covered in Snow in the as the back drop. Diane

September 27, 2008 - 12:12 PM Jack - Kubota Garden in Renton is a great photo shoot location for any occasion http://www.kubota.org While certain areas of the garden has a very Asian feel, majority of the garden simply feels beautiful and none-ethnic, as to avoid heavily themed photos. And unlike the UW Arboretum Japanese Garden, it is free and centrally located for everyone from South King County, Eastside and Seattle. This is by far one of my favorite gardens in the Puget Sound area, and since it's not particularly popular nor crowded, it's a low stress location to conduct photo shoots.

September 29, 2008 - 2:27 PM Julie - Jenny, The idea of a ferry boat is marvelous. I don't think anything represents Seattle any better. Especially if you have the opportunity to capture the space needle or the city lights of Seattle as the background. With your talent as a photographer, this would be a sure thing. I love this idea!
